All Course Marshals will report to Missy at the Volunteer Check-In near the Starting Line 30 minutes before your shift starts. You will pick up your volunteer shirt, safety vest and traffic flag. After you receive these items, you should go to your post listed below.
The Volunteer Coordinator is Missy. You can reach her on her cell, which is listed on your lanyard.
Course Marshals will be located at various intersections on the course that need additional support to keep runners pointed in the right direction and to make vehicles aware of runners. Runners do not stop at stop signs so it is important that the Course Marshals use their safety flags to warn drivers to wait until the runners have passed before proceeding. If you need a bathroom break, you should call Missy and she will send someone to fill your spot while you are gone. All Course Marshals are located less than 3/4 mile from the Start/Finish area except the Capital City Trail location which is on the opposite side of the lake.
Runners will approach you and pass you as they make their way along the lake. You should see the first runners around the times listed below. This is going to be extremely busy and crowded so be ready for a rush of 600-800 runners (near the start but spread out near the end). You will then see the runners after they turn around and head back to the finish line.
BRING BUG SPRAY AND SPF IF YOU THINK YOU MAY NEED IT. YOU MAY ALSO BRING A LAWN CHAIR SO YOU CAN SIT WHEN IT’S SLOW.
